Empowering Aboriginal
communities.

Priority Reforms & Policy Development.

Transformative initiatives in partnership with government & Aboriginal organisations to advance priority reforms and develop culturally informed policies.

PROJECT 1

SOUTH AUSTRALIA ACCO STRATEGIC PLAN DEVELOPMENT AND SECTOR MAPPING

KSJ partnered with the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF), the South Australian Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation Network (SAACCON), and Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation (AAR) to develop and implement the consultation and engagement strategy to inform the development of an ACCO Sector Strategic Plan for South Australia.

This initiative focused on sector mapping to understand the strengths, challenges, and aspirations of the South Australian ACCO sector.

KSJ co-designed and delivered culturally appropriate community organisation engagement workshops that informed the Sector Mapping Report and Strategic Plan.

Our work emphasised sustainable funding, capacity building, workforce development, strengths-based co-creation of policies and proposed initiatives, and highlighted the need for strategic partnerships with governments and organisations.

The strategy will inform a whole-of- government framework that aligns with the National Closing the Gap Agreement’s Priority Reform 2.

PROJECT 2

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND WATER – BIODIVERSITY ACT CONSULTATION

KSJ co-designed and delivered consultation workshops with First Nations community members to contribute to the development of the States first Biodiversity Act.

This project involved facilitating public consultation processes to ensure the legislation reflected the perspectives of First Nations people, recognising their cultural connection to the land and waters across South Australia.

Our recommendations prioritised cultural heritage protection, dedicated funding for Traditional Custodians, capacity-building initiatives for Traditional Custodians, and the inclusion of Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property (ICIP).

The workshops highlighted collaboration in legislative development, ensuring the Act was culturally relevant and aligned with First Nations values.

With a focus on creating culturally safe spaces, fostering meaningful partnerships, and achieving tangible outcomes for Aboriginal communities, KSJ has delivered tailored strategies & innovative solutions for large-scale infrastructure, energy & environmental projects.
